Medea
Sophie Okonedo stars in Medea, based on the Greek tragedy, for a limited run @sohoplace
@sohoplace is London’s first newly built West End theatre in 50 years, rising from what was once considered to be a neglected area of Soho. The project now stands finished as an exciting and modern theatre with state-of-the-art facilities. @sohoplace is surrounded by excellent transport links, as it sits directly above the Elizabeth, Northern and Central lines.
As well as wonderful acoustics, @sohoplace has perfect sightlines from every seat, with no obscured views. With a capacity of 602, no seat is further than six rows from the stage - providing audiences with a more intimate setting. The curved auditorium connects the audience and actors with what, in theatre terms, is called ‘the hug’. One of the main selling point is the flexibility of the auditorium, which has the ability to be transformed into a number of different configurations.
The theatre opened in October 2022, following a 12 year, £300 million property regeneration totalling 285,000 square feet. @sohoplace sits at the heart of the development, surrounded by offices, a piazza and retail stores.
@sohoplace opened with a production of Marvellous, a stage adaptation of the BBC film of the same name. Since opening, hit shows like Heathers: The Musical and the Death of England trilogy have played at the venue.
@sohoplace is located at 4 Soho Place, Charing Cross Road, London W1D 3BG, by the junction of Oxford Street and Charing Cross Road. The theatre is easily accessible by public transport, with tube and train stations nearby. Its central location also makes it ideal for pre-show dining and post-show sightseeing.
