Get ready to roll out the red carpet (or should that be green) — Strictly Come Dancing is heading to the movies this Saturday, 11 October, and it’s shaping up to be a blockbuster of a week. Because, the BBC has announced that the Wickedly talented, Cynthia Erivo, will step into a brand-new role as the show’s first-ever Guest Mentor.
Erivo, who’s been dazzling audiences around the world as Elphaba in Wicked, one of last year’s biggest film releases, is no stranger to the Strictly ballroom. Fans will remember her previous appearances in 2021, when she joined the judging panel for two weeks, filling in for Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse. This time, she’ll be swapping the judge’s desk for the rehearsal studio, working closely with the 14 remaining couples to help them bring their Movie Week characters to life.

Who Is Playing Dorothy in Wicked Part 2? What Rumours Say
Yes, Dorothy Gale will appear in Wicked Part 2 (officially titled Wicked: For Good), but we still don’t know who will step into Judy Garland's famous slippers. The lack of casting news hasn’t stopped fans from speculating, with Alisha Weir emerging as the strongest contender to play the iconic role.
Since Dorothy plays a key role in the Act II storyline, this article contains spoilers. So if, for some bizarre reason, you haven’t seen the stage show (it’s been in the West End for 19 years, you’ve had time!) then don’t scroll any further. You have been warned.
Is Dorothy in Wicked Part 2?
Yes, Dorothy appears in Wicked Part 2. Within the Wicked universe, she is not the central character but an important figure whose arrival in Oz sets major events into motion. In the musical, she exists largely in the background. Her story only hinted at through references to the yellow brick road, the tornado, and the fateful house that falls from the sky. Dorothy does appear on the stage during a pivotal scene, but the audience sees only her silhouette. The shadows of the performers being back lit onto a scrim that is drawn across the stage by Elphaba to protect Glinda. The films, however, bring her into the frame more directly.
For viewers who know Dorothy only through The Wizard of Oz, Wicked offers a new perspective. Here, the Kansas farm girl still journeys to Oz with Toto, but her presence serves as a narrative turning point in Elphaba’s story. And your perception of Elphaba’s reaction to the child changes. After all, you would be slightly miffed if some random pigtailed girl flew in from another word and SPOILER ALERT crushed your sister, Nessarose, to death. We can catch the first glimpses of her in the Wicked Part 2 trailer, though her face remains deliberately hidden.
Theories About Who Plays Dorothy in Wicked Part 2
Since Dorothy’s face is never shown in teasers, her casting has become one of the most talked-about mysteries surrounding the sequel. Among the many names suggested, one actress has emerged as the most likely choice.
Alisha Weir as Dorothy: The Leading Theory
Alisha Weir, who rose to fame as the lead of the recent Matilda the Musical film adaptation, is widely believed to be the actress behind Dorothy. Fans point to several hints fueling the theory. She appeared at the Wicked premiere, even though she was not officially credited in that film, wearing a dress paired with silver shoes, an unmistakable nod to Dorothy’s footwear. She has also been photographed alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo at the Critics Choice Awards, and they all looked very pally with each other.
In interviews, Weir has responded to the rumors by calling them “crazy” and laughing off the speculation, yet she has never fully denied them. Her age, stage background, and screen presence make her a natural fit for the role, and her consistent proximity to the Wicked cast and crew only adds fuel to the fire. If you want to catch this future Hollywood star live, you can currently see her in Mary Page Marlow at the Old Vic, where she plays the youngest of the five Mary’s.
Other Rumored Contenders
Other names have circulated online. Taylor Swift was briefly suggested as a surprise cameo, though no credible source has ever linked her to the project. Maddie Ziegler’s name has appeared in online discussions because of her age and visibility. She did perform a Wizard of Oz inspired number in Dance Moms, but that was a few years back. However, the most compelling piece of evidence comes from the official Wicked Dorothy action figure, which bears an uncanny resemblance to Ziegler. Dove Cameron, who has already starred in several musicals, including; MAMMA MIA!, Clueless: the Musical, and Hairspray, is a frequent fan-cast for fantasy projects. She has also been mentioned in fan forums, though again with no official basis. While these theories keep fan conversations lively, none carry the same weight as the ongoing speculation around Alisha Weir.

Wicked: For Good will feature two brand-new songs
Wicked: For Good, the second part of the highly anticipated film adaptation, will introduce two brand-new songs, written exclusively for the screen. This marks the first time in the musical’s 22-year history that fresh material has been added.
Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba will debut “No Place Like Home”, while Ariana Grande’s Glinda will perform “The Girl in the Bubble.” As new compositions, both will also qualify for Oscar consideration in the Best Original Song category. Could they beat the whopping 10 nominations and two wins they received at this year's ceremony?

Everything we learned from the final Wicked For Good trailer
The fnal Wicked trailer has landed, and fans are dissecting every frame. From long-anticipated musical moments to subtle nods to both the original stage musical and The Wizard of Oz, the trailer is packed with Easter eggs, big-screen reinterpretations, and emotional hints at what’s to come.
Here’s a breakdown of everything we’ve learned:
Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
We already know Elphaba is a fully paid-up member of PETA. A passionate animal rights advocate, she forms a bond with her professor Doctor Dillamond and later frees a caged lion cub. She’s appalled that people in power want to silence animals and vows to use hers to amplify theirs.
On stage, this cause fades into the background during Act 2, as the plot focuses more on her tangled relationships with Glinda and Fiyero, her growing command of the Grimmerie, and her showdown with the Wizard. Apart from the ever-present flying monkeys and a cheeky flash of a certain yellow tail, animals all but vanish.
Not so in the trailer. We see herds of bulls, horses, and giraffes stampeding through Oz. It’s a visual payoff for Elphaba’s first-act activism — and a sign of the chaos she’s causing. Citizens, keen to avoid a fate like Mufasa (too soon?) are seen fleeing in fear, while the Wizard, ever the spin doctor, is likely preparing to frame Elphaba’s liberation as an uprising of destruction.
You’re Invited to the Wedding of the Year
We’ve always wondered what Glinda's wedding dress would look like, and the film delivers. With a mile-long train and trained butterflies fluttering around her like a thousand bridesmaids, it's every bit as dramatic as we hoped. But despite the spectacle, Fiyero, her groom, doesn’t look entirely comfortable at the altar. Is it just a case of wedding nerves, or is there something else at play?
This wedding never takes place on stage, but in the film it introduces new conflict and emotional weight. Fiyero (newly appointed head guard of the palace) is visibly torn between love, duty, and truth. The tension between Elphaba and Glinda only deepens as they take opposing sides. Is this a union of hearts, or a PR stunt engineered by the Wizard to maintain control?
Glinda Gets Her Bubble
One of the trailer’s most playful moments shows Glinda officially receiving her bubble from Madame Morrible. The bubble even comes with a “tap to bubble” button, which Glinda presses repeatedly, delighting in popping in and out of it like a new toy. Her excitement is met with a dry smile from the headmistress, who teases that it’s really the wand that “sells the look.” It’s a charming beat that fleshes out Glinda’s bubbly persona, whilst also emphasising the headteachers disdain for Shiz University’s most popular student.
Familiar Faces Return
Though she isn’t seen in the trailer, Dulcibear (played by Sharon D Clarke) is set to return. Could this hint at a flashback to Elphaba’s childhood - something we only saw for the first time in the first Wicked film - or is she now part of the animal rebellion?
The ensemble also includes some familiar stage talent: former West End Glinda, Emily Tierney, will make an appearance, whilst stage legend Liz Izen appears as a fervent "Glinda Fan."
And of course, we also spot glimpses of Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow. Like in the first film, their cameos are brief but significant — but don’t worry, we won’t post any spoilers here!

Wick-Red? Stage show forced to change Elphaba’s colour
Due to a technicality in the Universal Pictures’ copyright of the Oscar winning movie adaptation, only the filmed version of the witches of Oz can feature a green Elphaba. As a result, stage productions worldwide - including Broadway, which opened two decades before the Universal film was released - must now change her iconic emerald hue to a different colour - and after much deliberation, Winnie Holzman - who wrote the book for the stage adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s novel - has decided Elphaba will now be... red.
That’s right - our misunderstood, magically gifted, gravity-defying heroine will now be donning a shade more suited to fire engines, ripe tomatoes, and, well, a famous pair of slippers. Fans are already mocking the change, dubbing the much-loved musical ‘Wick-Red.’
The Science Behind the Change
However, Holzman and the producers insist the change isn’t just due to the legal issue; it’s an artistic choice. “Red actually makes more sense for Elphaba,” said a spokesperson for the show. “It’s a colour associated with passion, rebellion, and power. She’s always had a fiery personality. Green symbolises envy, but Elphaba has never been envious. She’s always followed her own path. Red is for revolution, and we think this suits her much more!”
The show’s creative team have also highlighted how the colour change better aligns with the musical’s themes. “When she sings ‘I’m through with playing by the rules of someone else’s game,’ what’s a more defiant colour than red? It’s bold. It’s dramatic. And, crucially, it doesn’t violate Universal’s copyright agreement.”

The record-breaking smash-hit quickly became the highest-grossing musical adaptation of all time, surpassing MAMMA MIA! ($611 million) and Grease ($188.62 million).
