Originally opened in 1968 as The Central Collegiate Building Auditorium, the venue was later renamed the Bloomsbury Theatre in 1982. After a major refurbishment, the theatre reopened in 2019 with updated facilities, a restored 550-seat auditorium, and improved accessibility. Over the years, it has hosted a diverse array of artists, including Ricky Gervais, Jo Brand, and UCL's own world-class researchers and performers.
