Andrew Llyod Webber’s Phantom of the Opera is turning 40, that’s four decades in the West End! To celebrate Cameron Mackintosh is bringing together a sensational international cast for a limited birthday season of the show, in its original home at His Majesty’s Theatre. Since 1986, Phantom of the Opera has become a global phenomenon with productions playing to 160 million people in 217 cities, in 23 languages. With over 70 major awards worldwide, and the first original cast recording to ever hit Number One in British musical history, there is a lot to celebrate across the four decades.

Producer Cameron Mackintosh has announced that Beatrice Penny-Touré will star as Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre for a strictly limited ten-week season, running from Monday 2 March to Saturday 9 May 2026. Lily Kerhoas, who currently plays Christine, will give her final performance on Saturday 28 February 2026, with the production now booking until Saturday 3 October 2026

A cast of sensational singers will serenade you while dishing out pints and laughs.  6. Solve a crime We all love a mystery. So, be part of the jury at Witness For The Prosecution. The unique show takes place in a legit courthouse. While you sit in the pews, you’ll hear the Agatha Christie characters tell their side of the story while you decide if the defendant is guilty or not. It’s better than watching True Crime on Netflix.  7. Spend some time with your favourite celeb Whether it’s your hear-me-out crush or an actor you admire, you can book tickets to see your favourite celeb in London. Now, we say to see it alone so you don’t have to coordinate with anyone else and can have the best shot to get the ticket you’re after - no talks of budgets, dates or where you want to sit. You’ll be in charge of your destiny.  10. Try something new  If you’ve wanted to broaden your horizons, why not try something new like an opera or a ballet? It's something you've always wanted to do. What's stopping you? 11. Cry like no one’s watching Having a good cry is good for you. Often, you want to do it alone. Sometimes you need something to free those tears. So why not see My Neighbour Totoro to release those trapped emotions?  12. Take your time around a gallery There are two types of people. Those who linger and read all the plaques at a gallery, and those who whiz past so they can get a coffee and maybe visit the gift shop. But for Christine, she’s waking up in an underground lair. As Christine comes to her senses, she hears the soft tones of a monkey music box. In an attempt to stay close, Christine lifts the Phantom’s mask - it’s the first time audiences see his true face. Furious at his condition, the captor expresses how he wants to be loved like anyone else.  Notes/Prima Donna While Christine and the Phantom remain underground, Raoul, Andre and Firmin grow concerned about their missing performers. As the company search around, they discover a series of notes from the Phantom, demanding Christine be the star. Carlotta’s rightfully worked up - she’s worked her whole life to be at the top! The owners assure Carlotta she’ll stay, but how can they balance two prima donnas: Carlotta and the Phantom? Why Have You Brought Me Here? Carlotta can’t catch a break in Phantom of the Opera. As soon as she complains, the Phantom turns her voice into a croak. There’s one person who can do something about this - Christine. In 'Why Have You Brought Me Here?', Christine confides in Raoul about the Phantom, his behaviour, and his growing obsession. To her dismay, Raoul doesn’t believe what’s going on could happen.  All I Ask of You Poor Raoul. He’s loved Christine for so long, and as soon as he can do something about it, the Phantom’s (metaphorically) over his shoulder. Pleading to Christine’s heart, Raoul sings 'All I Ask of You'. He’s not looking to control her. He just wants to champion her. Mercifully, Christine realises some of the errors of her ways and falls for the real human in front of her. All I Ask of You (Reprise) In the Paris Opera House, there’s always someone watching. And that someone is usually the Phantom. Having spied on Christine and Raoul, our masked figure twists a love song to enact revenge. 

Ariana DeBose will be doing the thing (again), as she hosts the 77th annual Tony Awards at the David H Koch Theater at Lincoln Center on Sunday 16 June.  West End transfer Cabaret is up for eight awards, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Eddie Redmayne. There’s also British interest in the form of Here Lies Love, a musical based on former Filipina First Lady Imelda Marcos created by Talking Heads’ David Byrne and iconic DJ Fatboy Slim. The musicians are up for Best Original Score - fingers crossed we get to hear the tunes live this side of the pond soon!  What we don’t have to wish for however, is the incredible 11 Tony winning shows that are already playing in the West End! The musical first opened in 1950 and ran for an impressive 1,200 performances, but you will have to hurry if you want to see the current West End run.
