The Prince Edward Theatre Londres: Lieu et Histoire

Le Prince Edward Theatre a été conçu par Edward A. Stone, également architecte du théâtre Piccadilly, en 1928. Avec la décoration intérieure de Marc-Henri Levy et de Gaston Laverdet, le bâtiment lui-même a été un succès. Un spacieux foyer art déco accueillait le public, avec des escaliers menant à la stalle et au cercle vestimentaire. Les thèmes de fuchsia et d'or ont rendu l'intérieur chaud et accueillant. Il a ouvert le 3 avril 1930 avec une représentation de la comédie musicale Rio Rita. Malheureusement, le succès des spectacles a été mis en échec, ce qui l'a obligé à changer de main et à utiliser les lieux à plusieurs reprises. Le Prince Edward 1935 fut converti en salle de danse et de cabaret, rebaptisé "London Casino" et renommé "Queensberry All Services Club" en 1942. Après la guerre, il redevint le London Casino en 1954 converti en un cinéma, réouverture en tant que "Théâtre Castino Cinerama".

En 1978, il a été reconverti en théâtre et a retrouvé son nom d'origine, rouvrant avec la première mondiale de la comédie musicale Evita. Puis, juste avant l'ouverture de Mary Poppins en décembre 2004, le Prince Edward Theatre a fait l'objet d'une remise à neuf afin d'améliorer les aires de bar, les fontes des installations de la maison et les vestiaires.

Avec une capacité de 1.618, le Prince Edward montre actuellement Jersey Boys et attend le retour tant attendu de Miss Saigon.
