Following a sell out run at the Royal Court Theatre, the universally acclaimed production of Martin McDonagh’s first UK play in over 10 years, HANGMEN transfers to Wyndham’s Theatre for a strictly limited season.
In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity. But what’s the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they’ve abolished hanging? Amongst the cub reporters and sycophantic pub regulars, dying to hear Harry’s reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit.
Martin’s McDonagh’s theatre credits include The Beauty Queen of Leenane (the Royal Court), The Cripple of Inishmaan (National/West End/Broadway), The Pillowman (National/ Broadway), The Lieutenant of Inishmore (RSC/Garrick/Broadway) and A Behanding in Spokane (Broadway). For film (as Writer/Director) credits include Six Shooter (Short), In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths. Martin has been awarded the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy (The Lieutenant of Inishmore), an Olivier Award for Best New Play (The Pillowman), an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film (Six Shooter) and a BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay (In Bruges).
Matthew Dunster directs as original cast members David Morrissey and Johnny Flynn reprise their roles.

Cuando el hype rodea a un espectáculo tanto como el bombo ha rodeado a la nueva obra de Royal Court, HANGMEN, empiezo a preocuparme: ¿estará el espectáculo a la altura de los estándares que he oído sobre él? Con una obra como esta, que en su esencia está muy centrada en el tipo de humor que te interesa, la opinión de cada persona es diferente. Por suerte, cuando fui a ver la segunda función previa de la transferencia de esta obra al West End en el Wyndham's Theatre la otra semana, no me sentí nada decepcionado.

Hangmen en el Wyndham's Theatre hasta el 5 de marzo del año que viene, es una obra refrescantemente original y ejecutada a la perfección. Está ambientada en 1965, justo después de la abolición de la pena capital en Gran Bretaña. El protagonista de la obra, Harry, se ve sin su trabajo como verdugo – ¿y qué puede hacer un verdugo cuando se abolió la horca? En esta producción, los momentos muy tensos están perfectamente equilibrados con mucha comedia tensa, ninguno de los cuales es demasiado irónico o algo torpe (a diferencia de estos juegos de palabras).
Atractiva de principio a fin, Hangmen es una obra que recomendaría encarecidamente a cualquiera que quiera ver una obra sofisticada, humorística y completamente única.

La nueva obra de Martin McDonagh, Hangmen, que acaba de trasladarse al Wyndham's Theatre tras una temporada con entradas agotadas en el Royal Court, es una combinación única de una tensión deliciosa y un humor que hace reír a carcajadas. Estamos en 1965, acaban de abolir la horca y Harry Wade, dueño de pub y el segundo mejor verdugo de Gran Bretaña, tiene mucho que decir al respecto.

Cuando me sugirieron que fuera a ver Hangmen, una obra, me sorprendió bastante. Me he criado rodeado de musicales del West End , así que me parecía una idea extraña, pero aun así decidí ir y ver mi primera obra profesional.
