Laura Tyrer joins cast of West End revival of Chicago with her audition to be broadcast on TV

Following the [misfortunate news](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/2064/denise-van-outens-return-to-chicago-postponed-due-to-prior-injury.aspx) that **Denis van Outen** was forced to pull out of ***[Chicago](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/musical/380/chicago-tickets.aspx)*** due to an injury discovered at rehearsals, it has been announced today that the role of Velma Kelly will be filled by **Laura Tyrer**, who will join the West End production next week. Her audition for the part will also be broadcast on national television.

**Laura Tyrer** is set to join the West End cast of ***[Chicago](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/musical/380/chicago-tickets.aspx)* **on **24 September 2018**.
She will be starring alongside the previously announced multi-platinum-selling singer and actress **[Alexandra Burke](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/2035/alexandra-burke-joins-west-end-cast-of-chicago-as-roxie-hart.aspx)** as Roxie Hart, **[Duncan James](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/2047/duncan-james-to-replace-martin-kemp-as-billy-flynn-in-chicago.aspx)** as Billy Flynn, **[Mazz Murray](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/2015/west-end-revival-of-chicago-casts-mazz-murray-as-next-mama-morton-and-announces-extension.aspx)** as Mama Morton, and **Paul Rider** as Amos Hart.
**Tyrer’s** previous stage credits include ***[Matilda The Musical](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/musical/1010/matilda-the-musical-tickets.aspx)****, Spamalot* and *Ruthless!.* She won the part of Velma Kelly through an audition that will be aired on television as part of a new ITV series entitled *The Big Audition*, which was created by the producers of *First Dates* and features auditions completed in real-life.
The West End revival of **Kander and Ebb’s *[Chicago The Musical](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/musical/380/chicago-tickets.aspx)*** premiered earlier this year in March with its main billing star **[Cuba Gooding Jr](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/post/1186/spotlight-on-cuba-gooding-jr.aspx)**, who [played the role of the smooth-talking Billy Flynn](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/1867/cuba-gooding-jr-to-star-as-billy-flynn-in-west-end-revival-of-chicago.aspx) before his **departure from the show on 30 June 2018**. The razzle-dazzle musical received its original London premiere in 1997 and ran for a spectacular 15 years.
